①In the past, workers with average skills, doing an average job, could earn an average lifestyle.② But, today, average is officially over. ③Being average just won’t earn you what it used to. ④It can’t when so many more employers have so much more access to so much more above average cheap foreign labor, cheap robotics, cheap software, cheap automation and cheap genius. ⑤Therefore, everyone needs to find their extra — their unique value contribution that makes them stand out in whatever is their field of employment.
  ⑥Yes, new technology has been eating jobs forever, and always will.⑦ As they say, if horses could have voted, there never would have been cars. ⑧But there’s been an acceleration.⑨ As Davidson notes, “In the 10 years ending in 2009, U.S. factories shed workers so fast that they erased almost all the gains of the previous 70 years; roughly one out of every three manufacturing jobs — about 6 million in total
— disappeared.”

1. In the past,

2. workers with average skills, doing an average job, could earn an average lifestyle.

But, today, average is officially over.

Being average just won’t earn you what it used to.

1. It can’t

2. when so many more employers have so much more access to so much more above average cheap foreign labor, cheap robotics, cheap software, cheap automation and cheap genius.

1. Therefore, everyone needs to find their extra — their unique value contribution

2.  contributionthat makes them stand out

3. in whatever is their field of employment.

1. Yes, new technology has been eating jobs forever,

2. and always will.

1. As they say,

2. if horses could have voted,

3.  there never would have been cars.

But there’s been an acceleration.

1. As Davidson notes,

2. “In the 10 years ending in 2009, U.S. factories shed workers so fast that they erased almost all the gains of the previous 70 years;

3.  roughly one out of every three manufacturing jobs — about 6 million in total — disappeared.”

have access to sth:有获得某物的权利;获取某物,得到某物;

use to do sth:过去经常做某事;注意与be used to sth习惯某事、某物相区别;

stand out:站出来,脱颖而出;

accelerate(动词,使...加速,加快)-acceleration(名词,加速)

note:在这里用作动词,表示说,提到;2010年Text1中note作为名词,表示某种氛围;

shed:流出,摆脱;这里表示裁员;之前我们在真题中有接触watershed表示分水岭;

erase(动词,涂掉,抹去)-eraser(名词,橡皮胶)

appear(出现)-disappear(消失)

average skill(基本技能)-average job(普通工作)-average lifestyle(中等的生活)-average mill(一般工厂):本文中不断出现average,该词与不同的词搭配其翻译也会有不同的讲究;

genius:天才;

extra(额外的)=unique value:这里表示独特的价值;

field (of employment):表示领域;如括号中表示工作领域;

previous:过去的;前缀pre表示之前的;vi表示看见;在前面看见的,引申出来表示过去的;
